Welcome back Katherine!

Did you like the medieval banquet? I've regretted that DD and I didn't go when we were in London last April.

I missed that when I was in England a few years ago too... or is it something they recently started doing? And *where* in London is that?

- I have come to the conclusion (since my trip) that I would have to have a LOT of money and hang around the British Isles (I promised an Irish friend that I would meet him if I could ever afford to go back.) for a few months to take in everything that I would ever want to see. A lot of history to cover! ;o)

It was fun. The kids were really impressed, and entered into the spirit of it completelly.

AFAIK, there have been medieval banquets there for a long, long time. Basically a dinner theatre with a medieval theme. Quite fun.

That's pretty neat, especially considering that England is where a *lot* of that happened in reality! But *exactly* where is it done though... not the Tower of London, surely.

By the way.... Matthew was in Toronto this past weekend and went to one of those medieval things there. He had a blast and said "It was excellent!!" :o)

Those mediaeval banquets are put on in lots of places, mostly historic sort of sites. I've never been to one (now there's a thought for a family celebration) but I've heard from others besides Katherine how much fun they can be Love & higs Christine

It was near the Tower, in a place called "Ivory Towers". Quite authentic-seeming.

You just have to let yourself go with it. One group came in costume, and really enjoyed themselves.

I guess I will just have to go back someday so I can do that! Actually, I would love to be able to go back and spend a lot of time there...I would love to live in London. I don't see it ever happening, but it's a dream.

Cool... I just did a google search and it came up as "Ivory House", but it is listed as "Just a stone's throw from the Tower of London" and describes the theatre performances, and banquet. :o)

Gawd I'd hate to live in London, it's a rat race, you drive nose to nose all the time, and people spend their time pushing and shoving with no real time for anyone else. You don't even get to know who lives next door to you.

I was back in London to stay with a friend and a week was enough for me, I lived there when I was a teenager, but never again. I thought I'd love to be back there again, memories from my youth, but I found it horrible, nobody wants to even stop to say hello, let alone look in your direction.

The shops there are all way up in prices, and we have the same shops here that don't charge the earth, not sure why that should be.

No I am always glad to return to my countryside quiet gentler life.

I'm with Cher, after living in a village the idea of going back to living in London doesn't appeal at all. Although DD2 who is currently living in East London is actually thriving on it. I think maybe it's better for younger folk who have friends around them. It can be very lonely 'cos everyone seems to be so busy living their own lives. Village life is better for me anyway Love & higs Christine

I'm with you, Cher! London is not for me. I'll let you know about Montreal next fall.

I like the idea of visiting cities, but not living there. That being said, one of my girls decided, after our trip, that she definitely wanted to live in a city. She loved the hustle and bustle, and the crowds, shopping, and even the tube! ANother one, OTOH, decided that she didn't want to leave Labrador ever again. She said, "I don't like looking up and only seeing a small piece of the sky."

I lived in London when I was a teenager and then my parents moved us back to small town Ohio. Yes, I know the advantages of living in a small town too, but since then I've always felt like a fish out of water. The rest of my family all prefer small towns, the smaller the better. When I was back in London last year, it felt like home to me. I loved it and so did my daughter.

I know it horrendously expensive, that's why I know it's only a dream.

The first girl you mentioned is just like DD2, absolutely loves it. Me I'm just like the second of the girls, I like my sky visible, my hills close by and the dominant colour in my landscape green Love & higs Christine PS I knew you were going to be busy, but I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to come up to London to meet you Katherine.

You know what? That would have been wonderful! I can't say "next time", because I don't foresee one. But then, my life has taken so many different turns lately, that I will never say "never".
