Row counters?

Hi Everyone: Is there any place that I can obtain a row counter that is 3 digits? I have several of the regular ones but I can only roll the numbers up to 99. What do the rest of you do when you want to keep track of rows while working on a large project? I'm about 2/3 finished with the front of this aran sweater and I'm up to row 99. Lots of cables and twists and I need to keep track of what row I'm on...... Also, I guess I'll need two row counters as I cast off in the front for the neckline, as I work on each shoulder. Need to keep track of the pattern repeat.... Marie and the cats

Both of row counters have only 2 digits. If I'm doing more than 99 rows, I just continue the next row at 0 and mentally add 100 for each row which I find easy to do.

Yes, thank you, that is what I need to do with this sweater. For myself, it would just be less confusiong for me to have a big counter. I found some really cute patterns, one for a ruana, a poncho and a sweater that is knitted from wrist to wrist. Say there are several hundred rows- I would get confused into oblivion keeping track of that, especially if there was a pattern repeat. However I see that Anna Maria has found a site that offers a really cool digital row counter LOL. Somehow, I could have sworn that I saw one of those inexpensive plastic ones that had 3 digits. I just can't remember where or if I'm now imagining that I saw it? Marie and the cats- shaking their heads

I picked both of the Lion yarn counters as hubby wanted me to choose some things to go into my xmas stocking last year. They are sticky and when you turn the first digit both go and I found them so troublesome I stopped using them. And now I have looked and they only have 2 digits and you are right ; that is a bother. barbara

Marie,

How about one of the peg it counters. They go up to 100 and you can start over and there are four separate sections. I've used mine for years and had no problems with rows over 100.

Aren't you supposed to count out M&M's or chocolate chips and then eat one for each row?

I'm still such a beginner I don't know HOW to make something big enough I have to count!

That's what the Yarn Harlot recommends, and I like it!

I have one of those too, Nora. When I reach 100 and the pattern calls for more than that, I leave on peg in the 100 spot and use a new peg to start over. :o)

I guess I should say I *used* to... I haven't used it in a while because I haven't knitted or crocheted anything that large that I needed to keep track of. But I have it anyway... my Mom bought it for me along with my standing knitting bag. :o)

Mary,

A lot of blind knitters use an abacus to keep track of rows done in knitting (and I assume in crocheting too). For some reason I have the impression the abacuses one can get at the NFB (National Federation of the Blind, in the States) or CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind), the beads need a little more force to move them than usual, so if they get knocked by the blind person, the count is not destroyed. However, I do not speak from personal experience. :)

Hi! I do the same. I add it mentally. I mean when the rows go over 100. Can not explain very well...but I know someone gets the point as usually. Best: Pirjo
