New website - anyone care to critique it?

This has been in the works for some time - it's gone through many changes and been put on hold many times... but I now have a new computer (my old one died last week) and I had to get all new software... and my new graphics program ROCKS (Photoshop Elements 2.0 - about $120) so finally my photos are looking nice. Even though I lost all my old pictures of jewelry I've sold or given away.... taking new ones of what I have was NOT SO BAD - I'm so happy about that - it was really stressing me out.

SO here it is - if anyone would care to have a look-see... I'm wondering if the photos are too big, if you think my "About the Artist" is too nerdy... anything else that catches your eye as being "off".

Thanks so much! (I'm so nervous about this, I want honest, but I think I'm going to cry if someone says it's horrible!) Pam The Blue Between

I LOVE PSE! Sorry you apid so much for it tho. You could have gottne it at Sams Club for just under $60. Other than that, it is fantastic for photo editing! And have you played with the slideshow feature yet? Very cool!

Just in case you'd ever need some help with the program, there is a terrific bunch at the Adobe newsgroup for PSE. Darned near as great and supportive as the people here at RCB. :-*

the pictures are GREAT. and the layout is easy to navigate and use. it's crisp, clear, and easy to read [a BIG plus for me!] the only thing that was slight off was the color on the side and top. and that may just be MY computer. instead of blue, it comes through some shade of lavender. **there's nothing wrong with that!** but i was expecting blue, from the name. and because it's a bit dark, it makes it harder to read the text at the top. with that color, the white lettering on the menu works really well. the black, not so much. [and that's a very subjective thing, with my old eyes!]

Thanks JoAnn - bummer I paid too much for it, but I do love it! Thanks for the heads up on the Adobe newsgroup - I will look for it - I wanted to put a drop shadow on my logo but couldn't for the life of me figure out how. I'm sure it's possible - it does everything else. I LOVE the liquidify effect too - soo cool!

I like it and it is very imformative. As far as picture size... as long as you have the bandwith no picture is to big. :) Lovely items also and when I get the cash.....

Where did you want your shadow? Maybe I can help - I've had PSE for about a year now - and it ROCKS! I've surprised myself at some of the stuff I've done.

Thank you VJ :)

It's very blue on my machine... so I just went to look on the old clunker machine my son uses and yes, it's a periwinkly blue/purple color :( Oh well - hubby is going to give me a hard time about it being purple too then. But it's not dark on either machine so I have no idea what to do about that.

Thank you for looking!

Oh Harry thank you too - I am going to have to work on some men's pieces so you can pick from something might actually enjoy wearing :)

Yes, it's hard to imagine being on a dialup after 3 years on cable... so perhaps the photos are way too big after all. I will have to revisit them and see if I can compress them some without losing too much quality.

I wanted to put a little drop shadow around the words that sit on the "clouds" in the top banner - to make them stand out a little from the clouds. Does that make sense?

The site is really nice! Quick to load with pics that aren't too small or too huge. I love the FAQ page - wonderful info there. Nice design, clean layout, and the About the Artist is fun - not nerdy at all. Kudos to you, darlin.

okay - i don't have a clunker - the one thing david does do is keep mine super-charged. i do have a 1024 x 768 monitor setting, and it's a 19" monitor.

like i said - it's probably not really a big deal. and if it does come up blue, then the black text would show better.

Pam - Did you adjust your gamma settings?

You are very welcome. I am also on cable, but I was refering to your website bandwith. If it is low the more hits you get the quicker your allotment will be used up and then people will get that little message telling them to try back again in a few minutes, which translates into come back when the site is reset. Which usually means the following month. I talk to much and ramble on! Good grief! lol

Thank you so much Kandice :) I *am* a nerd, but didn't want it to come off that way ;)

NO :( I plugged in the new machine and went to town. Everything looks BEATUIFUL on this shiny new machine - it's a multi-media super high graphics capable machine. I'll be so sad if it needs adjusting.

Okay, I'll assume that your clouds are on one layer, your text on another (possibly even two layers).

Highlight your text, select Layer Style in the palette well - select the first icon - Simple Outer.

If you want more shadow, after you've added your shadow, select Layer|Layer Style|Style Settings. that will allow you to move the shadow to whatever angle you want as well as increase the bezel of the shadow.

I hope it didn't seem to imply that I was saying you had a clunker - I just meant to say I was able to look on another monitor and see that it did look purple and not as nice as it does on the machine I made it on. The photos didn't look as good there either. :(
