Marissa,

I can put you in touch with many tons of birdy folks when you two are ready. I raised birds in Alaska and handfed almost all my babies. Budgies were my all time favorite, but I had them for fun. I think at one time I had over

50 beautiful pairs. I just love their chatter and their colors.

Starlia,

Neat.

The only breeder I ever knew bred them only for the colors. I hated that. He should've had flowers or fish, not intelligent, friendly animals.

I am guessing we will end up rescuing somebody(s).

We are quite sure Mucha was hand-fed... he was SO friendly and immediately went to all people who came in. I keep telling DH that it isn't likely other birds will be like him - or that they will talk as well. I am sure that whatever pet we ever have (avian, canine, or feline) will be much loved and babied. (I hope we never have fish)

I don't know if this would help, but is there a rescue group that could use a foster parent? If you were to "babysit" for a weekend, or week or two, until they can place in a permanent home.

I don't know that much about that type, perhaps Tink could fill in more, if there is such a thing?

I never had a bird that I honestly didn't like. I had some that didn't like me though...Tango was one of those. I loved everything about budgies and that's why I raised them. I did care about the genetics, but that is the geek in me. I kept detailed records and paired birds that I knew would give me such and such trait in their offspring. They were truly loved. I made corn bread every day for the birds that included fresh veggies and bugs. XH ate some of the bird stuff one day and I never said a word. I wonder if he knew if he bit into an egg shell. (hehehe)

Story about Tango...

We, DH, friends, and I were at a bird auction and Tango was up for sale. Instead of being in a cage in the back his owner had him in the stands with him. Very wise in my opinion. Anyhow, Tango and Dan kept looking at each other. Tango kept getting off his owners back and walking toward us. Dan wanted to know if the bird was for sale but didn't want to intrude on the gentleman. Being the shy person that I am I got up, went over to the gentleman, and asked about his bird. The rest is history.

Needless to say Tango and Dan were in love. It was truly one of those "we saw each other across the room" kind of thing. I think Tango was a female which would probably be why she hated me.

She loved to ride in the truck. She would even allow me to hold her if DH was driving. I really miss hearing her first thing in the morning and talking all day. Tango was just learning some new things and he/she was so cool.

Illigers are very hard to find. They are a medium size macaw, about the size of an African Gray but with a huge beak. I hope that we can have another bird someday. I wouldn't mind hearing all their chatter and squawking again.

vj found this in rec.crafts.beads, from "starlia" :

]They were truly loved.

what kind of music do yours like?

my Piper really responds to "classic rock 'n' roll" and country - especially country with fiddles.

Oh Marisa I'm so sorry to hear this!!!!

Both of my little parakeets died suddenly. One day seeming ok - the next a fast decline. Please don't blame yourselves.

I'll miss Mucha and his antics too.
