OT: DSonIL Update

Hi Guys, I returned from Lizard Land a week ago and all is well in the desert. Steven, my DSonIL, is doing unbelievable well after the stroke last November and he is returning to work (part time) on 01 June. He still has short term memory loss problems and FINALLY has accepted this and admits it -- even jokes about it now. He might have that for years but it is something that can be easily dealt with. His spatial perception problem (distinguishing left/right, front/back, top/bottom, etc.)is getting better. He also admits to having this problem which he vigorously denied for a long time. The biggest problem is the eyesight. He had lost a good portion of his left peripheral vision in both eyes. This is why he won't be able to drive. The floating clot over the retina in his right eye is still there but can be surgically removed if necessary. There is nothing to be done for the peripheral vision except wait for the brain swellling to go down and pray a lot. Most Dr's. say that it could easily take two years for the brain swelling to disappear so we just have to be patient. DD is also doing good. I am VERY proud of the love, stamina, perseverance, understanding and patience she has shown throught this whole horrid ordeal. She has finally had to find another daycare for the SMDGD. Her current day care is really geared to very small kids and Rachel is now 2 and needds to be in a larger facility that offers her more challenges. Also, DD works until almost 6:30 PM and has had to find somewhere that stays open until 7:00 PM AND doesn't cot a king's ransom!!! She found a place yesterday that is convenient to her work, charges by the day, potty trains the kids, offers structured "lerning" stuff and is clean too!! Raechel liked the people and the toys, etc. so hopefully the change will go smoothly. Now, for the humor :-). I have told Steven since he first was hospitalized that I'll know he's truly on the road to recovery when he can "flip me off" or give me the "one finger salute" with his LEFT (the side that was affected in the stroke) hand. When DH and I got there, the first thing Steven did was "give me the bird"!! I gave him a big hug and told him it was about time he started treatng me properly -- LOLOL! On another note -- just to spite DD's Evil MIL -- the SMDGD has refused to call her Grandma. I am GrandMother and Raechel has spent the last year calling me Momma (DD is Mommy). Well, all of a sudden, what does that brat baby do but start calling ME Grandma!! I would say, "No, I am GrandmaTHER" and then she would say "No, GrandMA!" This became a game and every time I would say GrandmaTHER, Raechel would get that little gleam in her eye and say "GrandMA" and then smile at me evilly! The child is a tease just like her Daddy and she's just turned two -- a BRAT Baby for sure!!!
