OT----- Who has time to stitch?

Thanks for the tip, but it wont work for me, for several reasons. I rarely use a color printer, and when I do, I use my son's. So it is not that convenient. But also, I am not sure that a color printer reproduces the colors to exactly match the DMC (or Anchor) colors. Very often the confetti stitches are quite close in color to those in the near vicinity, so it might not be clear whether they matter or not. Over the years, I have taught myself how to do confetti stitches quite efficiently, and it is much easier for me to just print the pattern out in black and white, and stitch away.

I can see how most of the designs might be a bit more for the female crowd. I used to have good luck finding things a bit more gender neutral at Michael's. Years ago (and I do mean years) I found a neat pattern book full of WWII Fighter Planes and did one of them for hubby to take into the office. I would love to see some of your work Jim, do you have a gallery?

What are confetti stitches?

Wow, well I am so far from a fiber artist it's not even funny. Cross stitch is a relaxing hobby for me- I just pick patterns that I like and follow them. I have nothing but respect for the artists/designers in this business because I could never come near to producing the beautiful patterns/works of art that they do.

No you aren`t so far , you just do different work for a different reason, I even don`t display much of my work on my home walls , they are mostly either folded in a closet or on their way to be hung in a museum or Gallery. Some of my works have travelled far, alas they had no stories to tell:>:>:>:>

Only the works that came back from Warsa Poland, told us that in Warsa people can smoke in Galleries.

I incoportae a lot of Xst techniques into my works , i rarely use it as an only technigue, [ look at the work Tirah Porakhat in the exhibition "Mapressions Loci"]. In other works i used xst in a piled way as well , but this isn`t on my site as it hasn`t been shown in public. You can also look at other works and see where xst is a part of other techniques [Look at Zarzir]

OHH i am not into business , i am telling stories, that i need to tell. Didn`t you ever feel you wanted to make a picture by yourself about something that facinates you or bothers you ,,, Yesterday i met one of my Artists who made an Exquisit delicate work for my next curated work. I was thrilled to see it not only because of it`s technique , but mainly for the Idea behind the work . Levelsof meanings came into working. The artist put her heart and mind into this work.

Do you have a favorite photo you took ? can`y you try and take out a detail , and translate it into embroidery ? have you ever tried ,,, NO don`t use a computer , use your imagination and math paper ,,, Take you Monogarm and elaborate it .... I have found a way [ took long hours to play ,,,] to incorportae both my English M , and the Hebrew Mem ,, thus this is now my private Monogram, and i already used on 2 different works. My own Shield, and a work meant to be "My Personal Box".

thank you it was interesting looking, Now if you are interested inthis works , why not look at books and mags with xst and pull out only those patterns that interest you [ copy on math paper !!] now arrange those pieces as you would like them ,,, and than stich your OWN made and thought out work !!! you could make Islands of xst between or among Islands of Appliued items ,!!! Border each work with Beads and or ribons and or lace .... there are No limits to the possibilities !!!!

It is a neat idea !!! have you thought of not making those as Separate works , but take a Bigger Cloth and work many of those C patterns on one ??? Maybe add some Ribbon works , i saw some beuatiful ribons embroideries of letters ,, it might make an interesting piece combining several different techniques whose Subject is ONE special letter!!!!.

Yes i read that and was curious, Inthe Dutch tradition, people do xst on a background matrial that usually stays empty,,, Hence i have seen many works like that ,, and they are always a new surprise.

Thank you !!! this was most educative. looking at all those things that interst you made me wonder , why you don`t try and make your own work ,,,, The dark works looked esp variated. Would you try and make a small work combing snips from some of those works ,??? Cut out your C drawn on Math paper , cut out the other letters and see if you could roll them one over the other or combine them like a puzzle ,, maybe you could find a way to make your very own ,,, ?? It is a matter of trying till it Comes .. best of luck mirjam

Well lately I'm not feeling very "creative" that's for sure. Mostly I get inspired by something or someone or something that was said and a picture (sort of) will pop into my head -- or in my heart and I go from there. Then I just start sort of generally drawing it in Pattern Maker in whatever color is available in the default. From there it usually goes through a gazillion changes -- some of which are done when stitching. Of course, if my wonderful stitcher Tia Mary is doing it, I have to rely on her to say "this color looks horrible on here!" Grin .. and trust me -- SHE WILL!! (Luv ya Tia Mary!) Well that post wasn't very helpful ... sorry ...

Thank you for sharing your site with me Mirjam. I don't know what to say but just wow! You do some very amazing things with needle and thread. I also want to thank you for all your suggestions about how to get the creative juices flowing. I never take pictures much and I really can't draw at all, but you have inspired me to try nonetheless! I think maybe for my first project I will try to do a pattern of my own house- maybe less of a "literal" pattern and more of stylized one. I can't draw worth anything, but I do have graph paper and a hubby who CAN draw so maybe he can help me. Thank you so much for the ideas and the inspiration :)

I have created cross stitch patterns from monograms, made one of our local team's logo, and used crochet patterns for cross stitch.
