I retired today

Today was the last day for my home daycare, after twenty two years of raising my own two and about 48 other children I'm done. Now I am off to be just "Nana" to my own granddaughter, and to take the next step down a new path.

Cheryl is so right. Unless you retired to be everybody's free babysitter, you'd better arm yourself with firm reasons why not as well as phone numbers. Friends, friends of friends, strangers and neighbors are all inclined to assume that if you are retired that you'll just be glad to take care of all of their needs. You can not if you are hoping to have a life of your own. And it's okay to be emotional about retiring. You can weep for at least ten minutes. More than that will be wasting some wonderful time to do what Diana would like to do when she wants to do it. Polly

Congratulations on this huge step Diana. You may feel a little strange for a day or two; but, not long after that, you will be so busy, you can't even think about being back at work. Everyone I know has had the same experience. Some, who have dreaded retiring, are always thankful within about a week!! This is your special time. Enjoy it to the full >g< . CONGRATULATIONS! I retired several years ago and have not had a single moment of regret! Now, when people ask you to do "just one little favor" (to care for their children), you can tell them that you have retired and no longer do that. If they persist, smile and say you simply cannot, and don't have any insurance coverage. I practised law

-- yes, lawyers DO retire! -- and go through that song and dance frequently. I also politely tell people I can recommend other lawyers to them and offer a few names. I simply will NOT get involved or answer a single question, but note that if they think they need a lawyer, they should hire one. ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations!! I love being retired and know you will too. You just need to make a plan, to give yourself some focus. (Be flexible, but not so flexible you turn into everybody's emergency slave.) Roberta in D

God bless your soul and all like you. I would have slit my own throat with a rusty spoon 21 years 51 weeks and 6 days ago. You deserve to enjoy yourself and this maybe difficult, but put yourself FIRST once in awhile. You have more than earned that right.

Big hugs and congrats.......retirement is totally kewl ;)
