Oh My Freaking God ..... I'M DONE!

Ok so some of you know that I was working on a Mariners comapss for the local (now Canada wide) juried quilt show. Everything was going woderfully until I got preggers and felt like crap for 3 months, I was very worried that I was never going to make that darn deadline but I did and I finished it yesterday!!!!!

Here are the specs:

48 point Mariners compass King sized (114" x 110") Feathers are machine trapunto and I used more than 3,500 metres of thread just to quilt it!

I never thought it would be done! On top of the sheer feat of getting it finished on time I took the final step today of washing it at the MIL house because she has a fancy front loading washing machine and almost had a heart attack when I took it out of the machine only to find a blue ball point PEN rattling around in there too! THank heavens it didn't leak or explode and the quilt was fine and came out unscathed!

Anyway cross your fingers for me that it does ok (or even gets accepted!)

The pics are in my Yahoo album (should be the first 5 pics)

Oh and I should mention that, pin, pin, pin doesn't even begin to describe my basting method! I used over 2 cans of starch on the top and backing and about 1000 saftey pins to baste it!

I managed to get 3 VERY small tucks on the back which are barely noticable due to the stippling but if it gets accepted I would like to do my best to remove them, anyone have any good tips or tricks?

WOW!

If that doesn't get accepted you have to wonder what on earth would! The quilting also looks to be beautifully done.

Omigosh! That's just exquisite -- both the pattern and the quilting. What a terrific accomplishment! Congratulations and best of luck at the show. :)

Outstanding!!! A pen in the washer would have given me a heart attack, too!! Lord in heaven, how scary is that! The quilt is absolutely gorgeous, and will certainly "get accepted", if not take prizes!!

How very beautiful! Such clean lines, gorgeous feathers. You must be about to burst with pride! If they don't accept it, then I just can't bear to think about the quilt show I'll be missing. Roberta in D

You can ease out very small tucks. Just unpick a bit of the relevant stitching. Then re-stitch and streeetch at the same time. See if stretching in a hoop will smooth out the tuck, and maybe sew while it's hooped. This is a good place to bury the beginning and end of threads, rather than any of the quicker thread finishing methods. Sometimes tiny tucks can be smoodged into oblivion with your fingernail, but only if the stitches don't actually go through the fold. Roberta in D
