This is way off topic, but my problem at the moment. To shorten crinoline, can I just cut off? or do I need to hem it? Thanks in advance.....I'm a quilter, not a seamstress.

Is it hemmed already? My advice would be to finish the same way. But never had to deal with this issue, so YMMD! Roberta in D

Depends on what you mean by crinoline. If it looks like what they make scrubby-doos out of, by all means just cut it off. Maybe run a line of silk or rayon seam binding along the inside edge to avoid it snagging on hose if there is no underskirt. If it is a closer reletive to a woven fabric I would hem it. If it is one of the solid non-wovens, double hem it or bind it depending on how thick it is and etc. That stuff tends to get fuzzy or raggy on raw edges very quickly.

I've shortened one before and just cut it the way it already is. The one I altered had crinolines that had them just cut off, so that is what I did in the alteration. Barbara in Central Florida
Thank you to everyone who offered me advice. It is the kind like scrubby-doos so my plan is to just leave it. I doubt she'll be wearing hose but if she is I like your seam binding idea too. Thanks again.

Good idea...thanks, Julia.
Howdy! I've heard of paper prom dresses, recycled plastic prom dresses, silk, satin, lace, wool, etc. prom dresses. Shortening, tho'... sounds greasy. Kinda' hard to dance with a gal ... .

She wants to be sure she'll be "slidin" all over the dance floor... I guess???

You forgot the duct tape prom dress..... wonder if someone has made a WalMart bag dress yet?
