Hey Everybody! :)

Hey guys I'm new! My boyfriend is leaving for the Army basic training at the end of the summer. He signs his official papers on Wednesday so I am going to get some pictures then to put in the scrapbook I am going to start for him. I am going to scrap his military career (its going to last for two years) so I would love ideas and tips and websites, anything you guys can give me! Thanks!!

Well, he signed up for two years. The way Bush has been doing it it will probably be more like 4 years. In any case you should have plenty to scrapbook and it all should provide valuable memories in years to come. Well, I would start with red, white and blue and then look for things (embellishments and colors) from the arm of the military that he is going in to. Ask him if he has a chance and it is safe to look for little souvenirs, like bits of rock from blown up terrorist hide-outs, etc.

I would also see if an inexpensive digital camera is something he could take with him. He could take pictures (when it is safe) and e-mail them to you.

Thank him for his selflessness for us.

HI.

I'm with Robert when I say "thank you" to both of you for your sacrifices. To you for giving up your boyfriend for his tour of duty (whether we believe in the cause is moot) and to your boyfriend for serving a grateful nation (including this NYC'er).

I did a 9-11-01 memorial album that I did in the american colors as well as navys, grays, and whites. You can always work in other embellishments and don't forget to print out his e-mails to you and ask his folks to do the same as they will be valuable to him later on even if he doesn't want to talk about his tour of duty.

Compose the layout in the proud american feel. Newsclippings and other items from the home front would be of interest to generations to come. Whatever momentos he brings home or sends to you can be added as well.

We do talk about scrapbooking but this group "R-C-S' is also a great support group. I treat my cyber-space friends as closely as those I've met in person. Occassionally you'll see "OT" which means off topic and a general chat. It is like sitting with friends scrapping and you are talking about other things.

Good luck and don't forget to share.

Kate

Hi Ally and welcome to RCS!!

I am one of the few 'admitted' male picture placers ot there LOL! but have scrapped almost my whole life.

I spent 20 years in the Army and always had a camera with me, including desert Storm. I have a TON of pictures to scarp someday, but I have gotten my Desert Storm ones done. A few of them can be viewed in my webshots account.

Give that dh a big hug and THANKS for serving his country in honor at a time of confusion!!

Above are a few links I found for you to preruse. I think starting with a really cool album would be really nice. My husband spent 20 years in the Navy and I've been toying with starting an album for him and maybe he could help with the journaling. Who knows maybe he'd even get around to "picture placing" himself. :) Lynne
