Why don`t you list all the options and get people to vote by email? (If there is any small element of doubt you could get everyone to email their "vote" to everyone else in the group).

We seem to get "so far" and then the thread dies out and no decisions are ever made. :-) This is why I never worry about the little fretting with words we do while we're discussing. It all blows over like Hurricane Andrew.

True but this time a decision *does* need to be made. How about a general "tally" as to who likes: A.) something very traditional -- mounted, matted, framed B.) something not as traditional -- mounted, matted, framed but using different mats, cutouts on the mats, designs on the mats, etc. C.) something different like the wall hanging mounted in a "shadow box" that was discussed last year. Notice I made NO mention of using an old fireman's ax -- that one wasn't my idea. I have 16 people on my list of those who have stitched on the piece: MOI, Jan (UK), Felice, Jenn, Deb, Carolyn, Heather, Pat, Geo., Lucille, Fran, Cindy, Joan, Janet, Meredith & Elizabeth. I need to check the webpage and see if that is correct. Also, does anyone have any other DIFFERENT ideas for finishing? I don't think we need to get into specifics just yet. We need to see if the majority of people prefer one idea over the other. If that's the case, once we determine that, we can discuss different options. FYI -- I have had several people send me money to be used to help pay for the finishing. These folks want to remain anonymous so that's the way it will be. They also agree to go with the consensus of the group. I vote for B or C. As you can probably guess, I think something totally non-traditional would be best but I KNOW that idea won't fly -- LOLOL! I haven't stitched on the Angel, but I have been watching her progress from lurkdom. She's beautiful. With that in mind, I have had couple of ideas for finishing her. I hope I can actually explain what's in my imagination; here goes...

A wall hanging could be made to hang from an axe or axe handle if people really like that idea. The hanging I envision would be made out of several layers of fabric so as to look like flames. Then the Angel would be attached to this hanging in some fashion. I imagine her looking as if she is surrounded by flames but standing there unscathed.

Another idea I had is along the lines of burning the fabric. What about charring the edges of a mat used to frame her? Here I am imagining sort of a parchment colored mat whose edges have been burned; not sure how this color would work with the piece, though. Or what about using burned wood for the frame itself? In either case, I would be concerned about having the burned portion actually touching the stitching, but I also think spacers of some sort could be added to prevent that.

Anyway, I just thought I'd throw out these ideas for people to mull over. Maybe they will spark someone else's imagination!

No third choice and certainly no ax handle and no bogus burning. I think the angel, and the thought that goes with her, are above tacky, gussied-up tricks.

As a non-stitcher of this piece, this is not a vote, just an opinion. I like the idea of choice #2. Maybe with multiple mats, the date of 9/11 could be a "cut-out", and maybe an eagle, firemen's emblem, a fire-ax or somthing so that it would be clear to an onlooker the purpose for which it was made. Just a thought, but you could then have a blend of traditional framing, and the "personalised" look of the mats.

I definitely think -- whether taped to the back or as part of a letter presented with the angel -- it needs to go to NYFD with Marilyn's words about this angel's relationship to 9/11.

Here's my vote: I like B (above) or Mickey's idea: "Or what about using burned wood for the frame itself?"

Just from watching the responses so far, it seems that B has the most votes, not that they're all in by any means! :)
