Just to let you know I had an operation to remove a tumor from my stomach, and am now on the mend. It is not known yet whether the tumor was benign or otherwise. There were indictions it could be benign. I cannot drive a car for at least two weeks, so I am staying with my daughter and son, who live walking distance from each other. My main task is to heal and get well as fast as possible. I have a huge scar from my ribs vertically almost as far as you can go. The staples come out on Tuesday.. However, all signs are that everything has gone according to plan, and I should make a full recovery.

Good News Jim.

Years ago, I had my stomach stapled so I KNOW what you are going through as far as general recovery from that type of surgery. A few hints if you haven't already figured them out..... ALWAYS have a pillow handy and hold it firmly to your incision when you have to laugh or sneeze, etc. This will help control the pain from quickly moving the muscles in your midriff. WALK -- walk a lot and then walk some more. I have had several surgeries on my main body area. The stomach surgery by far had the most painful recovery as the gas worked its way out of my body through the intestines. The more I walked, the more I (what is a genteel way to say this??) well, um, expelled the gas from the only two available orifices :-)! It's not very polite but it's necessary and the whole process goes MUCH quicker if you are active. The only way to be very active after this type of surgery is to walk! DO NOT eat foods that will give you gas. You have enough already
-- LOL! I was on an unbelievably bland diet and didn't mind a bit. I even tried baby food because I had to have only soft stuff the first few weeks. The only baby food I liked were the desserts :-)! I ate lots of cottage cheese, applesauce, mashed potatoes and anything I felt like putting in the blender. I could eat hamburger that I sort of scrambled it into teensy little pieces when I cooked it. I would mix it with eggs and it made a pretty good meal. Take care of yourself and keep us posted on your status, OK? Also, what are you working on -- needlework related -- while you recuperate? CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Ditto, except my thoughts are coming from south of your border.
Sorry to hear that you had to have surgery, Jim. However, keep thinking positive, and get back on your feet soon. Hopefully the tumour will be begign, and that will be the end of the matter. I do remember after two Cesarean sections, I warned people "Please do NOT make me laugh"!!
Best wishes for a fast and uncomplicated recovery

Welcome Back! ! ! ! I'm sure we're all keeping our fingers crossed for benign results. Liz from Humbug
That is the best news! Prayers are still heading your way
Glad the wait is over, Jim - at least the worry about "what could it be?" part. Take care and relax and recuperate! Let your kids spoil *you* for a change!

Good news Jim! I hope you mend quickly!

Good news indeed - especially that it likely is benign. Listen to what Tia Mary said about the pillow - I've heard that from a number of people who have had abdominal surgery.

Glad to hear the surgery went well. And we all hope for negative results on the biopsy.
Keep your pillow handy and do walk and walk some more.
When you are not walking you can stitch up a storm.
Best to you, Alice in Utah
And now take your time and please heal mirjam
