I had my endoscopy and colonoscopy. First the good news; my colonoscopy was clean. Now the bad news; I have a "mass" in my stomach, which accounts for the bleeding. Before I get a diagnosis and prognosis, many more test need to be done. Biopsy on the "mass", a catscan, and an interview with a surgeon, who will almost certainly be required. I have decided to stay with my son, and/or daughter until this thing is resolved. They live half an hour from me, and 2 minutes from each other.
Sorry about your not so great news. I hope this is something you can weather. It will be good to be near your children and I do hope that they are great patient advocates as that will help you so much. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
Sorry to hear this. Glad to hear that the colonoscopy was clean. Glad to hear that your son/daughter are close and are willing to be helpful. I'll keep you in my pixie-dust-thoughts. EG
Again many thanks for all the good wishes. Yes, I have internet access from both my son's and daughter's house. I hope people dont mind, but I thought I would tell people how our medical system works, here in Canada, from one actual case. I got back from the UK on Friday, two weeks ago. I phoned my family physician on Monday to get an appointment for a flu shot. The nurse told me I needed routine blood tests. so I picked up the forms on Tuesday. I should note that none of this costs me one red cent. Fasting was required, so I had my tests on Wednesday. Wednesday pm, my doctor calls, and wants to see me on Friday. The lab phoned her to tell her of the low haemoglobim. I had confirmatory blood test. On Monday, My doctor had arranged for the test on Thursday am, with strict instructions that if anything went wrong, I was to call 911, get an ambulance to the hospital, and tell them I was a patient of Dr Sy. I lasted till Thursday, and now I need byopsys, and a Catscan. I cannot jump the queue. In theory I can cross the river to Quebec to do this, but this is not a good idea, My priority is completely determined by the nature of the medical emergency. There are Catscan machines all over Ottawa, operating most of time. I will eventually get my Catscan. I expect in a matter of days, I will get an appointment to see the surgeon, who will remove the "mass". I am sure if it is cancerous, I will have a higher priority. Now that I have met Dr. Sy, I can call 911 at any time, and receive emergency treatment from him. I know I have said it before, but the Canadian Medicare system must be one of the finest in the world.
Thank you SO much for relaying this information. All we ever get to hear are the "horror stories". No one wants to listen when it works well. That would mean it might be something we would be interested in. Best of luck to you. Cindy
So sorry to hear of the mass in the tummy, but also relieved your colonoscopy came out OK. I suspect this is the better of the two evils. I am glad your children are physically close to you, and you know you will be in my thoughts! Keep your chin up!
