Got to see Evan and his family yesterday. Evan was sleeping when we stopped to drop off dinner. Big sister Jordan was doing her 6th grade math (shiver) and big brother Dillon was making things for Evan with construction paper. Mom looked completely exhausted, but well. They were all excited about the homemade egg rolls, non-fried Fried rice, and orange-cranberry muffins...in fact, she texted me today asking me to send her the recipe! Evan woke up before we left, and Bek told him when he was feeling better then needed to have a camp out...I explained that in our house, a camp out is staying up all night watching movies and sleeping on the floor in the sleeping bags....or else playing on the Wii...he and his mom thought it was a cool idea.
Then today happened.
I had just gotten home from dropping the children off at school and was going through the freezer to pull out food for dinner when the phone rang. Apparently I went somewhat into shock because Ken said I called him and said both kids were at home - I don't even remember calling him. It was the school nurse from the elementary school (now, that's what she said, but I heard middle school and I was confused as to why my daughter was at the middle school....but i made it to the right school)....she said that Bek had fallen on the playground and had injured her hip and was swearing that she broke her arm. So...off I go....just like when she broke her nose in kindergarten, I could her hear cries from the school lobby. Took a look at her hip...just a scrape from the blacktop. Moved the ice off her wrist and saw a rather odd lump...fortunately that was where the break was - where her forearm meets her wrist (and the actual break is in the forearm). Called Ken and he said to take her to walk in because of the history of slowness at the ER. So....went to walk in hours, got referral to Xray, I saw the break on the first image. Waited in radiology for doc to call and confirm that it was broken, then had to wait some more while they contacted the ortho doc in the medical building attached to the hospital. Called back and they only had 1 doc, so I had to take her to the next town over to see an ortho that COULD put a cast on her....she is currently sporting pink from head to toe (pink headband, shirt, shorts, drawers, sandals, AND a hot pink cast!). From there it was a rush back to our town to get to the pharmacy, movies from redbox, lunch from McDonald's (treat for serious medical visit days), back to get RX, to school to pick up her backpack and lunchbox, then home, where I promptly fell asleep and didn't wake up until Thomas opened the front door after getting off the bus.
SO...I texted Evan's mom back that their playdate/campout might have to be postponed even longer due to the events of the day....I'm hoping this is all coherent because I'm completely wiped out...like i said, I apparently called Ken shortly after getting called by the nurse, yet I have no memory of that phone call at all.....ugh...thankfully, it's a
3-day weekend...maybe I can get some sleepLarisa
