Quilts for Fire Victims

Hi Everyone,

As you know, southern California is under siege with the fires. There are currently 13 fires burning, over 500,000 people have had to evacuate and they expect that number to rise to over 1 million. At this time, I would like to ask that anyone who would like to donate quilts for the children, I will be glad to accept them and help get them distributed. The children have nothing and need something to help them be kids while Mom and Dad will be dealing with FEMA, insurance companies and everyone else trying to piece their lives back together. I plan to work with Kappa Delta Sorority and work with our Kids Need to be Kids program which began with Katrina. We will be collecting toys and books for the children too, I would love to have quilts for them along with toys and books.

Debbi, thanks for doing this. Quick question. Is the infrastructure compromised around there? Will postal delivery be an issue?

So far I am still getting mail as I am not in an affected area. We still have freeways, and tollways working. Can't go south to San Diego as they had to close the 5 from San Clemente through to Oceanside as Camp Pendleton is dealing with 2 or 3 fires.

I have some orphan blocks that I could send on to someone, but I just don't have time to put whole quilts together at the moment. Is anyone going to organize a HUG style collection of blocks and such for these kids?

Dannielle,

I am unable to work on assembling the quilts. I HAVE to finish son's graduation quilt soon as my house is going on the market in January so I have to have everything put away. I am really only in a position to collect completed ones so that we can get them distributed.

Thanks Karen! I'll see what I can get put together in the next few days! Gotta dig through some stash and stuff to find everything.
