April FO's

I'm impressed. Do post a picture of the "neverending" shawl. I sympathize as I had a shawl as a WIP so long about a year ago that I decided to make it smaller and finished if off without a fairly complicated pattern sequence to get if off the needles and off my conscience. The resulting smaller shawl is great for packing for trips and has actually seen use - so that worked for me. It sounds like you finished the whole thing at last which should feel even better.

Squares for Stella and my partner for May.

Six afghans for Project Linus.

One afghan that I was sent the squares to be assembled and sent back to the owner.

WIP - A continuous granny square that I call ugly as it's got so many different colors in it.

Nora, do you use a particular pattern (or do you have a favorite) for project Linus?

Hi Jane,

I had the reply all done, but hit the wrong button so your note went, but not the one for here. I use three patterns most of the time, the continuous granny square, the V stitch without the chain one between the two dc's and my latest that I've done the ones with this year. Two strands of worsted weight yarn an "N" hook and the hdc. I use one solid color and one varigeted strand and they come out so neat. I've got so I can make a 40x45 in about three evenings.

Not about children but regarding afghans as gifts: As part of a job I once had, I had occasion to visit the medically compromised elderly in a home run by the city, mostly for people whose Next of Kin blank read "City of Boston." Pretty grim. But then, now and then, there would be a bed with a nice cheery afghan across the foot of the bed, and maybe some pretty slippers beside it. One lady whose hands were always cold always had some pretty wooly hand-knitted mittens on. It made all the difference, and it seemed to say, "this person is cared about."

Hi Jane,

With the Project Linus that I do the afghans for they asked if I minded if some of them went to the nursing homes in the area and I said of course not, I'd love that too. The lady said kids are sometimes fussy about the colors while the elderly love them all. Even though I don't live near this lady and where she distributes them, it's close to my old home town so it makes it even more special to know that the elderly will get them too.

I can't believe it's May already and hopefully the weather here will warm up soon as well.

Oh dear, my April list is pretty pathetic.

FO's:

-6 squares for comfortghan/exchanges

-1 sock

WIP:

-Clapotis shawl (finally restarted after yarn came in)

-yoga mat bag (finished but it's too big so have to rip and refinish)

-cabled cardigan (waiting for yarn to come in)

-the other sock (finished twice so far but still needs ripping and reworking - grrrr)

I'm afraid that May is not going to be very productive knitting-wise either since it is a big gardening month up here in New England.
