RCTQ Annual Quilting Week 2009

Tina: The DIC I am doing is a project to raise money for my Parish Relay for Life Team. Here is a reprint of some of the information I posted about this a couple weeks ago:

"This time we have a brown, caramel, pale blue focal fabric and a dark chocolate brown fabric as the chains, along with a pale blue background (alternate block) fabric."

I just have to tell, I am slowly but surely figuring out how to get "quilting" into my work days and work weeks now.

Today for lunch, I actually found a new quilt shop, not too far from my office! Purchased 4 FQ's, one of which I am hoping will work as a centerpiece for my Double Irish Chain.

I would certainly welcome suggestions here......

It will be indigos and lighter, softer shades of blue and white. But because it will get a lot of use, I don't want to have a whole lot of stark white open spaces. So I thought, I will put something in that center section. Ok, so originally our bedroom was going with a nautical theme, John loves sailboating and boating in general. So I spent hours and days looking for a nautical print that I could possibly cut a panel from to use as the center piece of that stark white area. I showed him some ideas and his response was, "Does it have to be a nautical theme?" Well DUH honey, I was only doing that because I thought it was what YOU liked?!?!?

So, he flips through the Hancock's catalog and what does he pick? Batiks! Oh come on! I love Batiks and have been dying to make a batik quilt, but I have no batiks and every blue I have collected for the past 6 years are mostly calico's and what nots.

I'm thinking I want a touch of red as an accent in there. So he pickes a red and purple batik for the center piece! NOT!

So the shop I found today, had this Marcus Brothers Aunt Grace Scrapbook that was a mostly white background with little (light) blue flowers and little red dots. I think I'm going to try setting the folded FQ in between a couple of the patch blocks and see what it looks like.....

He did also pick a batik that was a light blue, with a brown banana leaf pattern...... but I really think whatever accent fabric I put in there, needs to have more of a "white" background to it?

any suggestions? anybody?

Wow! I missed the post, didn't realize what was happening this week and have still managed to do quilty things nearly every day...for several hours each day if I can! I've been peeking through some magazines that I was gifted and haven't looked at yet, found one very nice quilt that has gone on my to-do list. Have been prepping triangles to continue working on my Thousand Pyramids top, which is being pieced entirely by hand. Found out over Christmas that there will be another baby arriving in the family (NOT FROM ME) and chose a quilt for that. I've spent yesterday and today cutting pieces for it, and now I am ready to start sewing. I did the last baby quilt for that family by hand...not this one! It's all machine this time! Unfortunately I have slowly been falling in love with the concept and colors for this one and am afraid that I may not let go of it when it is finished! So I've already started making extra pieces to have another one ready to put together for me!

I'm going to be joining my craft group tonight for the first time in over a month, so I'll be able to get more prep work done on my triangles. Oh, and I finished a memorial quilt for my mother - finally! I'll have to get the photos uploaded so that you all can see that, since many of you helped with siggie squares for the back. Only took me 2 1/2 years to finish a little wall hanging...that's not too bad is it?

All because I don't start school for a another week or so! Once that starts I'll be down to not much quilting time again. But hey, at least it is only one class, and it is the LAST class I have to take (at least as far as I know...am awaiting verification)! Then I'll be a graduate and I can quilt whenever I want - at least until I get a job!

Thank you Sandy, and all of you! Yes, I had a quilt birthday! It happened to be my monthly Quilt of Valor Bee work day. When I arrived, my three friends serenaded me with the Birthday song. We worked on our quilt and had fun. Instead of a brown bag lunch, we had a special lunch, with Ghiradelli Chocolate Brownies complete with candles! I received some FQ too. Way cool. PAT in VA/USA
