A very dear friend was on multiple levels of medication to treat side effects of medication to treat side effects (ad infinitum).
At one point, she landed in the hospital, and one of the nurses set out to get a *complete* list of her pills and why she was taking each of them. The hospital then took her off EVERYTHING, and started from scratch. Tried a newer medication for her basic problem, and found one that didn't give her all the side effects. It seems her doctor looked only at the fact that she was "doing well" on the older medication, and never registered how much additional medication she was taking for side effects, that might have been avoided with the newer stuff.
I had one medication that had horrid side effects. It was the only one that worked well on my symptoms, so I put up with them. Had it been 20% less effective, I probably would've stopped taking the pills because the side effects wouldn't have been worth it. They were barely worth it for
100% effectiveness!
But that decision should be up to the patient, not the doctor telling them "this is what I prescribed, take it." Especially for pain, there
*is* more than one option, and someone might have reactions to the doctor's favorite pill that they wouldn't have to something else, if only the doctor would try it.

OY -- no one has said ONE WORD about what Vic might be like on a one to one basis outside the group. Up until last year, we had a great e-mail relationship with nary a problem. It's the apparently unprovoked (at least to many of us) nastiness over the last year that is troublesome.

Yes, we did email didn't we! Oh well, truth be told, I do NOT care what anyone on rctn thinks of me. They don't really exist in my world. Not one of them know me or who I am. I could never fit in with a bunch of smarmy ass kissing hags...and I say GREAT for that.

At the risk of inviting a stream of invective, why do you still post on here, particularly after the number of times you`ve declared you`d finished with the Newsgroup?
And Caryn, I`m really disappointed to see you sinking to the level of name calling. I`ve stood up for you in the past, but that was a bit much. Don`t bother throwing things - I already ducked!

If you truly feel you don't fit in here, then why, in the name of all that's sane, do you keep posting here? All you seem to contribute lately are invectious, nasty, mean responses to people you obviously feel are below you. THIS is what rankles so much. You do your best to upset people and then get all huffy and even more malignant when those you have maligned respond and stand up for themselves. To make matters worse, you give no solid, grounded & provable reasons for the way you feel. You simply resort to outrageously false accusations, profanity and name calling as if that will justify your behaviour and add credence to your claims and statements. Such behaviour is, IMNSHO, childish at best (and infinitely more negative at worst) and does absolutely nothing to enhance your standing on this forum. If you honestly don't care about RCTN, then you really should consider getting yourself gone from here. For goodness sake, let go of the hate and negativity you seem enshrouded in and join another newsgroup where you can be happier than you apparently here!!!

You are not included in the smarmy hag category, you. And to be honest, I have no idea why I torture myself by reading or posting here. Must be some sort of self mutilation thing.
You also never have to duck. I'd never intentionally do anything to bring harm to you.

I'd rather be every contentious thing you say I am than to be a control freak like you.

I am STILL in a quandary wondering why you feel I have been able to exert some sort of *control* over anyone or anything having to do with RCTn or the Firehouse Angel. If I DID have any sort of control, I would have made all the decisions about the Angel and not bothered to ask for discussion. I certainly have NO CONTROL over what anyone thinks or feels or posts to the group. I certainly had no control over anything to do with the Angel except for putting names of volunteers on the list. Even the rotation was controlled by who was ready to work on the piece. All I can think is that YOU feel I am a control freak because, when you ordered us to return the Angel to you, I spoke up and said I didn't agree with you. My feelings then as now are that, even tho' you had begun the project and spent money on supplies, etc., the project (IMNSHO) ceased to be *your* sole project when you asked others to join in. Initially, you told everyone that you didn't want to be in charge of anything until time for framing and that the stitchers should direct questions, concerns and complaints to me. If that put me in control, then you have only yourself to blame. Please remember that, last year when you told us you wanted to have the Angel & all supplies returned to you, there were still at least 5 or
6 stitchers patiently waiting for their turn to work on the piece. I was VERY vocal about saying I didn't feel you had the right to deny those people their turn stitching simply because the project (which had NO FIRM completion date) wasn't finished when you had hoped. Perhaps you think that, because I voice my personal opinions loudly and clearly and often, this makes me a control freak. That's certainly not so -- my idea of a control freak is someone who manipulates others using any means, so that the control freak is the one to make all decisions. As I have said before, I have had NO CONTROL over any aspect of this project except for keeping track of the list of volunteer stitchers and seeing to the "housekeeping" aspects regarding the rotation and now the framing. So, bottom line, yes I "have control" of the Angel since she is in my possession (FYI -- the piece has just been taken to the framer's). Yes, I "have control" of how the piece is framed because those who spoke up agreed that I should do so. I "have control" of the money donated but again, it was something the group agreed on. I certainly didn't have any ability to **force** the group to do as I wanted. I volunteered to do the work when no one else was interested so that put me in control. That DOES NOT make me a "control freak" but it does make me the target for your animosity and vindictiveness. It's not the first time nor, I am sure, will it be the last.

Something! I've been spending hours watching a bird cam of a parrot in Edinburg. When I heard him talk, he had a Scottish accent which made me laugh. The bird is an umbrella cockatoo and his name is Harry. Mark thinks I flipped my lid laying here laughing at Harry's acrobatics all day. Mika responds too.

Just so you know, I read about three sentences of this diatribe. Your controlling nature has nothing to do with the damn angel or any part of it. I'm certain you've heard that you are controlling before and I'm positive I am not the only one who thinks it.

You have got to be kidding. Tia Mary is nowhere like the kind of control freak you are! People could only stitch if they did it a certain way, only if they used a laying tool, only if they used the scroll bars you wanted us to use and on and on. Then you tried to have it sent back to you so you could check to see how it looked. Then you decided you wanted to stitch out of turn, then you decided we weren't stitching fast enough. The only control freak on this project the whole way along has been you.

You should consider removing the plank from your own eye before assisting Tia Mary with the mote in hers.

Victoria -
Have you seen "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill"? It's the story of a man who cares for wild parrots in San Francisco - escaped pets. It's very interesting.

DIATRIBE: "a bitter, abusive criticism or denunciation." This sounds more like you are describing your posts, not mine. I am not bitter over anything nor have I been abusive. I have been critical (justifiably so) but have not "denounced" you in any manner. I have reminded you of the obvious truth and you don't like it so you accuse me of being a control freak I have never been told I am controlling -- out-spoken but not controlling. I don't try to FORCE anyone to do what I want. I do voice my opinions (loudly at times, too) and how I think things might best be accomplished. That is voicing my opinion, NOT controlling. I believe I have to agree with Elizabeth on her assessment of the whole control issue! When you got so unhappy last year, you tried to
**force** us to send the Angel back to you. Face it -- you're just totally pissed of at me because you thought I would do what you wanted and tell everyone that we should the Angel back to you. Best thing would be for you to quit trying to bully me with your meanness and negativity. I will NOT let you get away with it as you have done so often in the past. Remember, YOU are the self avowed student of Buddhism. What you post here is a reflection of you and your beliefs and so reflects back on what you have learned as a student of Buddha.

Tia Mary, Buddhism is so besmirched by this Victoria and her foul, mean-spirited attacks against you and others who have endeavored to create an object of beauty to be presented to deserving recipients. As a follower of Buddha, I can attest to the inappropriateness of her comments in this forum. One who truly strives to live by the doctrine and tenets of Buddhism would never justify such behavior in any setting, and the fact that she does so repeatedly in this newsgroup evinces a hateful, bitter, caustic soul. This woman's actions are anathema to loyal Buddhist adherents.

On the other hand, I wouldn`t think any true Buddhist would vocalise such a judgement - no-one in any religion can claim perfection - all anyone can do is try, and no-one - repeat NO-ONE - can really know how hard anyone else is trying nor how hard is their path.
Thank God I`m an atheist! ;-))

Since I am not a Buddhist, I certainly can't determine if the statements made are a *judgement* or not as far as Buddhist teaching goes. I know enough about Buddhism to know that it is a positive, peaceful philosophy that teaches "right thinking and self denial". Either way, none of us is claiming perfection. As I have said before, if a person's "path" is that hard and impacts behaviour negatively, then that person should not put him or herself in a position where it is easy to become even more negative. Of course! We own it and watch it. Those are Cherry Headed Conures. My Mika looks just like that, but doesn't have a red head and she had an eye patch which has no feathers...like all Macaws.
What a lovely man he is. We need a LOT more people like him.
Thanks for asking.
